The Illinois Coalition for School Health Centers is pleased to announce that the School Health Center FY08 Report Card is now available. Data was collected from 43 out of the 50 school health centers that reported and compiled into statewide, downstate, suburban Chicago and Chicago -wide templates. Please use these valuable tools to bring awareness to and advocate on behalf of school health centers during meetings with legislators, funders, sponsoring agencies and other venues that would benefit from learning more about the school health center statewide landscape. You can access the School Health Center Report Cards here. You may also access them from the links below:

The Illinois Coalition for School Health Centers (ICSHC) is pleased to release the first analysis of its kind that demonstrates the cost-savings realized from Illinois School Health Centers. At the beginning of the 2005-06 school year, ICSHC contracted with the Center for Impact Research to conduct a cost-benefit analysis of Illinois School Health Centers. Made possible by a grant from the VNA Foundation, the Center conducted key informant interviews with policy makers, advocates and professionals within the school health center field. They analyzed encounter data, financial information and national school health center findings to demonstrate the benefits of school health centers. The cost-benefit analysis shows Illinois School Health Centers are responsible for the following savings to Illinois: · $2.5 million per year by reducing emergency room visits · $1.77 per year by providing immunizations · $233,000 to 342,000 by reducing asthma hospitalizations

Striking a Balance The ICSHC has identified the creation of a centralized administrative system for Illinois school health centers as way to address many of the challenges that may affect the future of this important health care delivery system. By creating and implementing a centralized system, ICSHC anticipates that client services will be enhanced, quality of services will be improved and revenues will be increased. Please read the the study for a complete list of our recommendations.
